weaken the civil authority, as you have thought proper to
replevy the Brig we propose giving you security in the regu-
lar course, and shall indemnify the Sheriff on behalf of the
State.
You petitioned the Convention and the matter was post-
poned at your own request, as we have been informed — had
you chose to have let the dispute rest for their determination,
we think they would done you justice.

[Council to Vanbibber and Harrison.]

Gentn Since our last letter of the 25th ulto we have received
your favors of the 7th 8th & 10th ulto, containing Invoices, and
Bills of Lading for sundries shiped by the Friendship and
James which are arrived safe. We refer you to our letter of
12th Sepr for such articles as our State most want, a copy of it
you have inclosed.
We are sorry that Tobo has fallen at Martinique, for in
consequence of your former recommendations respecting that
article, we purchased 60 Hogsheads Tobacco, and must now
be shipped to your address to be sold either in Statia or Mar-
tinique as prices best suit. Inclosed you have Invoice and
Bill of Lading for [40 Hds. 444 Bll. fine Flour 49 do. super-
fine 65 Bll. Brandy] shipped on board the Resolution Cap.
Garey which we wish safe to a good Market. We are now
loading two schoners and a Brigg which we hope may arrive
with you soon after Capt. Carey.
The goods we enumerated to you in our letter of the 12th
Septr we cannot do without; Salt sells by the load at 15/ p
Bushel, and in retail as fast as it can be taken from along side
of the Vessel at 20/ -p Bushel.

Chester Town Nov. the 27th 1776.
Gentlemen.
I have not yet received any salt for curing the Beef and
Pork you gave me orders to purchase and unless it arrives
soon the season will be over before I can begin to purchase
any of those articles, there is a good deal of Pork to sell in
this Quarter tho' the Owners ask a very high price. You'll
please to hurry over the Salt intend for me, unless it arrives
soon it will be needless to attempt any purchase here this Fall.
