jecture to land a body of Troops at South Amboy, which is
very probable, if this City is the object with Mr Howe, others
guess Virginia or South Carolina, the latter is the most suspi-
cious, because if they succeed against Charles Town, they can
pass the winter there, a few days will relieve us from con-
jecture.
I submit to you the propriety of ordering the Artillery Com-
panies at Baltimore Town and Annapolis, be exercised daily,
if the weather will permit, and at least three times a week.
Practise alone can make Artillerists. In our Army we destroy
as many of our own People as of the Enemy.
Your letter of the 2nd I received by yesterday's Post. We
have paid for the paper. There are not 400 Dollars in Mr
Paca's hands, would it not be proper to transmit the account
agt Congress, or by some means lodge money here to exchange
our money.
I delivered the Resolves relative to Virginia to the Dele-

Wednesday November 27. 1776.
Council met. Present as on yesterday. Mr Jenifer attended.
Ordered That the Treasurer of the Western Shore pay to
the Clerk thirty Pounds for Expresses.
Ordered That the said Treasurer pay to Elizabeth Dennis
fifteen shillings.
Ordered That the said Treasurer pay to Peter Littig for the
use of Samuel Messersmith One hundred and nineteen Pounds
seventeen Shillings and nine Pence.
Ordered That the said Treasurer pay to Mr Michael Mun-
gan thirteen Pounds eight Shillings for recruiting Matrosses
for the service of this State.
Ordered That the Paymaster pay to Josiah Johnson of Capt.
Solomon Long's Company of regulars six Pounds for three
month's Duty.
Copy of Letter No 26 was sent to Capt. William Stone, and
Copy of No 27 to Messrs Vanbibber & Harrison, Martinique.
Adjourned till next Day 10 O'Clock.
