A Copy of Orders.
Sir. I must request your company to go on guard, until I
can hear from the Council of Safety (which I judge will be to
morrow or next day at farthest). The necessity of the case
will I hope induce you to comply (altho' my requisition does
not flow from strict authority) when I inform you that the
German Companies have marching orders and this day at 12
oclock desire relief. And Capt Nathl Smyth who I have applied
to for that purpose, says 'tis out of his power. B. N.

Gentell. This will be handed to you by Captain Paterson
he has ben with me to no if thare is any of the provence boats
are Redy. I have two Redy for them. The Rezen is at Bal-
timore whare Capt Paterson may go for amedatly. If you
think well of employing him the boat he chuses to go in is

The Bearer Doct Andrew Porter having been a candidate
for a Surgeon's place on the Surgeon's list for some time, and
is now willing to go as such in a Battalion going to the Flying
Camp. His abilities for that station are such that can recom-
mend him. being with due respect, Sir,

Sir. Annaps Sunday 8th Septr 1776.
By Letters received last night from Congress it appears
that it is not only prudent but absolutely necessary that the
American army at New York should be immediately rein-
forced, and therefore this as well as the other States are called
on in the most pressing terms for their utmost exertions for
