the necessity must be sufficient without further argument to
stimulate the people of Maryld to succour their brave Country-
men and defend America. The Convention yesterday even-
ing, not apprehensive of a requisition so important adjourned
till Tuesday. 35 members who are in Town assembled this
morning and have pretty generally concurred that measures
agreeable to the outlines inclosed will be necessary and the
most effectual that can be taken by this State in the greatest
crisis and the will be adopted by the Convention.
I am therefore desire by the Gentlemen, who are [present] to
request you will give notice to your Battalion to rendev. as
soon as possible, that things may be in [readiness] for the
execution of such [measures] as may be [resolved on] by the
convention which it is [belvd] will be done on Tuesday and
forwarded on Wednesday.

Council met. Present. as on yesterday.
Ordered That Western shore Treasurer pay to Lieutt Wm
Beall for the use of Captn Robert Bowie six Pounds for pay
for part of his Company.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to Captn Uriah Forrest
three hundred and thirty four Pounds, fifteen Shillings and
nine Pence for Pay and subsist: of his Company.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to said Forrest for use of
Belwood & Parran five Pounds five shillings for Boatage.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to Pollard Edmondson
for use of David McIntosh, twenty four Pounds, for four
month's Adjutancy.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to Joshua Trigoe three
pounds for Boatage.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to Robert Cummings one
thousand Pounds, on Acct of Subsist: of Troops.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to Hillary Wilson thirty
shillings for Subsist: of Part of Flying Camp.
Ordered That Western shore Treasurer pay to Henry
Stonestreet fourteen pounds for being Adjut'
Adjourned till next Day 10o'Clock

Mathew Tilghman Esq. Sir: As it is disagreeable to me
to hold my commission as Captain of the militia any longer, I
now return it to the Council of Safety inclosed herein. My
