[Johnson and Beatty to Council]

Fredk Town Sept 15th 1775
Gentlemen
Col. George Slaughter has made application to the Com-
mittee of this County for gun powder, who informed him that
it was solely at your disposal — he has since been to Philadel-
phia and several other places, though he was not very success-
full, he has returned home and requested of us to lay the
inclosed Papers before you, on the perusal of which he hopes
you will spare him two quarter casks and send an order for
the delivery. The Col. wishes for a return of the Papers &
your answer as soon as convenient, you will be pleased to

address your answer to

[Beatty to Council.]

Frederick Town Sept. 20th 1775
Gentlemen.
Agreeable to your request to me I have attempted to agree
with our gun smiths for the making of Musketts & they will
not come into the agreement exactly as your Directions is to
me they Differ only in two points which is as followeth — single
Bridle Locks instead of Double, 2/3 of the Musketts to be
delivered by the first of March next the remainder by the first
of May following instead of 1/3 by the first of January 1/3 by
the first of March and the remainder by the first of May —
every thing else they will comply with, if you approve of the
above proposals please to inform me and have about ^700,
sent me by Capt. George Stricker in order to enable the gun
smiths to get the materials for the same.

I wrote you last week by Mr John Youst to which have had
no answer shall be glad, to know if you incline to take Mr Rich-

ardson's Rifle & smooth bored Guns, the Council of Safety of
Virginia will be glad to take them & he only waits for your
answer. To whom should the bond be made payable that I
am to take of our gunsmith for the performance of his con-
