Powder now at this place, as the sole disposal of it rests with
you and from the peculiar circumstances of the people in
general over the mountains) we have advised the express to
wait on you and to make you acquainted with the true circum-
stances of the people as nearly as he can, we incline to think
that they stand much in need of ammunition and that it will
be but right to spare them part of what we have if you should
think the vouchers he carries are not sufficient to justify you
in granting him an order, you will be pleased to inform him
how he ought to prepare himself, & he will return to the Com-
mittee at Redstone, and wait on you again. We have about
4000 lbs of Powder in the magazine, over which there has
been a constant guard ever since the sitting of the convention
in May last, our people in this town seem a good deal worried
with constant attendance, we shall be glad to be informed
what you would have done with it.
