[Stricker to Council.]
Fredk Town Sept 8th 1775

The inclosed is a letter which I received from Mr Thos
Brown by Express, on the arrival of the Express at this place,
I prevailed on the Committee of Correspondence to meet and
take the matter into consideration who gave it as their opinion
that they could not meddle with the Powder without your
approbation, I have with the advise of the Committee dis-
patched the Express to you, and hope that you will think as I
do, that it is essentially necessary to supply them with some
small quantity, Mr Brown is a man that I am personally
acquainted with, and who I know to be a Gentleman of
verasity.
Mr Joseph Woodfield the Express, who will deliver, you
this, is a young man with whom I am also acquainted, he is
one in whom confidence may be placed,
I am Gentn yrs &c
George Stricker.

[Carroll of Carrollton to Jenifer.]
Annapolis 10th Sepf 1775.
I send you some letters wh Mr Paca just now sent by the
express & bearer hereof Mr Woodfield. I have signed the
order drawn by Mr Paca for 2 hundred weight of gun powder.
If you & Mr Alexander think it proper, on reading the inclosed
letters to share that quantity, you will be pleased to sign the
order Mr Woodfield tells me they are also in want of ball.
Some perhaps may be spared from Baltimore town, for he tells
me it is scarce at Frederick Town, what can be spared by yr
committee of Balt. Town. I know not; you & Mr Alexander
must settle that matter with the Committee. I am sensible
this manner of proceeding is not quite regular, but it would be
a great loss of time to call together the Council of Safety, & if
we should agree separately to what we should agree if collected
together the difference is not material: at this critical juncture,
and as the exigency seems pressing we must not stand too
much in form. I am Sir yr most huml Servt
Ch. Carroll of Carrollton.
