Tuesday 14th May 1776.
Council met. Present as yesterday.

Richard Thompson was appointed Supervisor of the Salt
Petre Works in the Lower District of Frederick County in
the Room of Mr Richardson who had resigned.
It was thereupon Ordered that the Treasurer of Western
Shore pay to said Thompson one hundred Pounds alloted by
the last Convention for that Purpose.
A Resolve of Congress was communicated to this Board,
relative to the apprehension of a certain Moses Kirklan who
lately made his Escape from the Jail of Phila wherein he was
confined by Order of Congress, and thereupon ordered That
Advertisements be immediately inserted in Maryland News-
Papers for Apprehension of said Ross as also Copy of said
Resolution together with the Advertisement be forthwith

transmitted to the Council of Safety of Virginia by Express.

Copy of Letter No 150 was sent to Committee of Safety of
Virginia.
Commissions issd to Joseph Douglass appointed Captain,
Thomas Eaton, 1st Lieutt Joseph Nicolls, 2d Lieutt and John
Dawson, Ensign of a Compy of Militia in Caroline County
belonging to the 14th Battalion of this Province.
Also to Richard Andrews appd Captain, Henry Richards,
1 Lt Samuel Andrew 2d Lieutt & Frederick Cawsey, Ensign of
a Company in the same County and belonging to the same
Battalion.
Also to Charles Baker appd Captain, Moses Johnson 1 Lieutt
Richd Hutchings 2d Lt & Nichs Amos, Ensign of a Company
of Militia in Harford County, belonging to the eighth Battalion.
Also to George Noble Swat appd Capt Nehemiah Noble
1 Lt James Bartlett 2d Lt & Thos Duffey Ensign of an Inde-
pendent Compy of Militia in Q. Ann's Co'y by Virtue of a
Special License from the Committee of Observation.
Also to Nathl Pigman appd Captain, Benj. Gaither 1 Lt Saml
Riggs 2d Lt & Wm Gaither, Ensign of Militia in the Lower
District of Fredk County, belg to 29th Battalion
Commissions issued to Elias Harden appd Captain Allen
Bowie Junr 1 Lt James Lackland 2d Lt & Saml Swearingen
Ensn of a Company of Militia in the Lower District of Fredk
County blg to 29'" Battalion.
