Green to bring an action against your Petitioners for scandal-
izing her, & the said Iustice Hammond threatned to Sue your
Petitioners for scandalizing him in the said Petn& threatned
to have your petitioner Susannah whipped for civilly & accord-
ing to Law complaining by petition to your Excllcy when she
had been really & in truth robbed & like to be murdered &
left for dead
Your Petitioners humbly pray that your Petitioner Susan-
nahs oath may be taken or that the said Susannah Green may
be committed or give security to answer the same the next
Provincial Court & that your Petitioners may have Summons
granted for their Witnesses to prove the same
And they shall ever pray &ca

The honourable Collo Nicholas Greenberry present at the
Board upon reading the foregoing petition humbly moves
leave of his Excellency in vindication of his own honour &
reputation as also of Iustice Hammonds in the petition like-
wise hinted at, to declare & make known to the Board the
falsity of what is Suggested in the said Petition & the lewd
wicked Character of the petr Susanna & accordingly informs
the board that pursuant to his Excellencys Commands to him
he had enquired & examined into the matter of fact Con-
tained in the petitioners first Complaint & could not find any
thing material or Substantial therein for which reason & to
prevent perjury he had denied the said Ann her oath he also
produced & was read to the Board a Certificate from Captain
Richardson Keeper of Newgate attested by Mr Way Notary
Royal & approved by Mr Scorey and Mr Hayward two other
publick Notarys setting forth that the said Susannah is a most
notorious Malefactor convict transported into these parts &ca
Whereupon Ordered that the petition aforesaid be rejected
& the tenor thereof Esteemed & taken to be notoriously false
& Scandalously & no Credit to be given thereto but that pre-
cept issue from this Board to Captain Iohn Hammond to call
before him the said Petitioners & require of them Bond of
100 with two good sufficient sureties in the sum of 50 1 Sterl
each for their appearance at the next provincial Court to
answer &ca & for their good Behaviour in the meantime (vizt)

By his Excellency the Govr & Council
Maryland ss May the 6th 1693
Whereas It hath been made manisfest to the Board that
Susannah Dryer the wife of Samuel Dryer of Ann Arundel
County a person of evil fame convict hath in a most notor-
ious scandalous manner abused defamed & bespattered
several psons of principal Note Majistrates & others in
