His Excellency was pleased to Communicate to the Board
& ordered to be read the following Letter from Mr Carroll
vizt

April the 10th 1693
May it please your Excllcy
I have been now above this Fortnight in the Sheriffs custody
by your Excellencys Commitment & do Beleive your more
weighty Concerns have hindered hitherto my Examination
upon the crimes laid to my Charge but the great detriment
which my present Confinement brings not only upon my self
but likewise the Orphans whose Concerns I have in charge
forces me to give your Excllcy this trouble most humbly desiring
that you will please to direct Mr Mason to take Bayle for me
under such Circumstances as your Excellency shall think most
Convenient & whenever your Excellency shall please to Call
me before you I do not in the least question, but that the
matters laid to my Charge will not appear of so high a nature
as they are present rendred to your Excellency I humbly beg
your Excllcys Answer by Mr Mason to

To his Excellency Char Carroll

Ordered to be read Iohn LLewellins Deposition produced
and read here the eigth instant which was accordingly done
agn at this time and urged as a motive of Continuing his con-
finement together with severall other matters alledged against
him as of his ridiculing the Government & Contriving what in

him Lyes to seduce & draw in others so to do pticularly Sr
Thomas Lawrence in making protest most scandalously
against Governor & Councill & his Contempt to Government
against their Majestys Interest & designs proposed & de-
manded by his Excellency the opinion & advice of the Board
whether to set the said Carrol to Bayle thereby giving him
further opportunity of doing mischief or Confine him till
further orders
