oppose resist and repell all such attempts insolencys and
Injuries as may happen to be offered or done by any of the
said Indians or others to any of their Majestys Subjects in
your Parts or Precints & to Pursue take kill Vanquish and
destroy the Persons offering or attempting the same according
to the tenor of your Commission & such further orders and
Instructions as you shall hereafter receive from me or from

my self and the Councill and lastly in this and all other matters
relating to the Premises you are to consult with & take the
advice and Assistance of the aforesaid Thomas Blake and
such other Persons in Commission or others of the best note
Iudgment and Understanding in the said County of Cecil as
to you or either of you both shall seem meet and convenient
for their Majestys Service and the good & Welfare of this
their Province for all which this shall be your Sufficient war-
rant Given under my hand and Seal this ninth day of March
in the fifth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord and Lady
King William and Queen Mary &ca

Instructions for Mr Thomas Blake Agent Employed to loin
with Collo Casparus Herman to treat with a Party of Strange
Indians lately seated at the Head of the Bay pursuant to a
Commission for that Purpose to them both directed from the
Councill Board this day (vizt)
1 You are with the first fair Wind and Weather that God
shall send to set sail with the Sloop or Shallop committed to
your charge directly up toward the head of the Bay to the
house of Collo Casparus Herman or as near as you can con-
veniently or with safety come to the same
2 Accordingly you are forthwith at your first arrival there
to apply your self to the said Herman and produce to him the
Commission from this Board directed to you both & empow-
ring you jointly and severally as occasion shall happen to act
therein
3 You are then to Consult with the said Hertnan of the
most Proper and effectual means and method to treat with the
said Indians which must be done with all the Civility, care,
moderation and prudence imaginable to endeavour to invite
and Perswade some of their great men together with the
French Man in their Company or at least the French Man
himself to Come down to treat with me or my self and the
Councill, in Order to the settling a League of Peace and
