thereof by the Freemen of the same thereunto elected and
chosen and that all Excuses set apart they & every of them
be and personally appear at the City of St Marys on the said
Twentieth day of May next to do and Consent to such things
as shall then and there by the Favour of God happen to be
ordained and Enacted
Given at the City of St Marys the Ninth day of March
Anno Domini 1692 in the fifth year of the Reign of our Sov-
ereign Lord and Lady King William and Queen Mary &c
God save King William & Queen Mary

The Commissions Instructions Letters and Orders relating
to the Indians according to the foregoing debates votes &
results of this Board ordered to be drawn up are as follows
(vizt)

By the Governor and Councill
Maryland ss
Whereas Information is given to this Board of severall
Strange and unknown Indians with a Certain French man in
their Company being lately Come and seated themselves on
or near to the Land of Coll Casparus Herman at the head of
the Bay in Cecil County in this Province and that a greater

Number is daily expected to join with them to the great dis-
satisfaction Terror and disturbance of their Majestys Subjects
Inhabiting this Province notwithstanding the said Indians do
pretend to Come in the way of Friendship peace and amity &
desire only Protection and a good Correspondency with this
their Majestys Government as is also informed Wherefore
to remove all Iealousies and the better to satisfy and ease the
minds of the good People of this Province their Majestys true
and Leige Subjects Coll Casparus Herman together with
Thomas Blake of Calvert County Gent are hereby Iointly and
severally as occasion shall offer Authorised and Empowred to
go to the said Indians and demand of them in modcat and
decent manner their Nation their Business and motives of
Coming among us, and (if as before) they pretend Friendship
to let them know it is expected they should come and enter
into a Solemn and firm League of Friendship and amity with
us according to the usual Custom in such Cases and there-
fore to perswade and Invite by all the fair means and civill
treatment imaginable the said French man and some others of
their chief and great men with him to come forthwith down to
St Marys to treat with his Excellency the Governor or the
Governor and Councill in order to Ratify Confirm and Con-
clude such Peace and amity as they Pretend to desire, if so it
shall appear upon the treaty And Captain Iacob Young of
