year the same was given to a Naval Officer appointed by the
Lord Baltemore as Proprietor and Governour of Maryland for
the clearing of all ships trading to that Province in pursuance
of the Acts of Trade and Navigation his Lordship became
answerable as Proprietor and Governour of that Province that
the benefitt of Lycences for Ordinaries in Maryland did
usually belong as a perquisite to the Secretary untill by an
Act by the Assembly in the year 1692. for regulating Ordin-
aries and limitting the number of them in that Province the
same was vested in the Governour That notwithstanding by
another Act past in the Assembly in the year 1692. for limita-
tion of Officers certain Fees are allowed the Secretary for
Chancery Writts usually issued by him the Governour did on
the 17th day of August last declare to the Councill that he had
thought fitt to seperate the Chancery Office and Records from
the Provinciall Court and desired their opinion in setting the
Fees belonging to the said Office upon the person who shall
be employed to manage and execute the same which Proposall
being allowed and approved of by the Councill the Secretary
thereby is deprived of the benefitt of issuing the Writts above
mentioned. And their Lordships taking notice that by his
Majesty's Grant under the Great Seal of the Office of Secre-
tary of Maryland to Sir Thomas Lawrence all the Rights and
Perquisites thereto belonging is given unto him Their Lord-
ships agree to lay this whole Matter before His Majesty for
his Royall Determination whether the Act for regulating
Ordinaries and the Order of Councill of Maryland of the 17th
of August last shall not be repealed the Secretary being
thereby deprived of such perquisites as have been usuall
belonging to his Predecessor in that Office and their Lordships
will all move his Majesty that the Petitioner may be permitted
to Execute his said Office of Secretary of Maryland giving his
own Security in the sum of one thousand pounds for the faith-
full execution thereof and that his Clerks may be obliged to
give a hundred pounds security each for the due performance
of their respective offices under him—
