ment which you have thought him so Capable of, the Person

hath formerly exercised the same employ but for his evill
deportment and ill manners therein he hath been Suspended
by order of this Court and hath severall times since Petitioned
this Court for lycense and they have not thought fit to Grant
it him, whereupon the said Pope hath insinuated himself and
taken the indirect ways against Law to procure Lycense but
finding the matter rests in us and that your own conceptions
are such we have thought fit to signify to you that we have
not granted License to the said Pope knowing him better then
your Excellency doth and have formerly adjudged him unfit,
& still Persevere in the same opinion, wee now give your
Excellency to understand that we have no Commission to any
Person to be Surveyr in our County, we therefore recommend
to you Robert Smith whom we suppose and are well assured
will perform justly the said Office please therefore (if you think
fitt) to send him a Commission with all Convenient speed this
is the request of

Ordered that Summons issue from this Board for the Com-
missioners of the said County Court to appear at the next
Provinciall Court to answer their Contempt and rudeness to
his Excellency in the foregoing Letter
Forasmuch as it is most credibly advised that a Ketch now
ready to set sail from hence is purposely employed and enter-
tained by their Majestys openly known and professed Enemies
to the prejudice of the Government ordered that she be stayed
from proceeding on her Voyage untill Satisfaction be given in
that point to the Governmt

By his Excellency the Govr and the honble Councill
Maryland ss Decr 21st 1692
Ordered that Captn Edwd Burges of Ann Arundell County
do forthwith deliver into the hands and possession of the
honble Coll Nicholas Greenberry or his order upon demand
the publick arms & ammunition in his Custody according to
the tenor of his receipt passed for the same, otherwise that he
be and appear before their Majestys Iustices of the Provinciall
Court at the next Court to be held at the City of St Marys to
answer his contempt
