sheriffe of Anne Arrundell County For the sumoning Nicholas
Smith Master of the Ship Hopewell of London to appeare
before this Board the Provinciall Court now ensueing.
which ordered issued in these words.

By the Council
Ordered that the sheriffe of Anne Arrundell County sumons
Nicholas Smith Mariner Master of the Ship Hopewell now
lying in south River in the County aforesaid That all excuses
set apart he be and personally appeare before his Lopps Council
at the City of St Maries the first day of the next provinciall
Court or at furtherest some time in the same Court To answer
unto such things as shall be alledged against him whereof let
him not faile dated at the Council Chamber at the City of St
Maries the 29th day of September Anno Dom: 1688.

Then was read a Letter from the Lords of his Maties most
honble privy Council to his Lopp the Lord propry acquainting
his Lopp with the birth of the young prince As also his Lopps
Lre to his Deptys Lieuts here in this Province for the proclaming
the birth of the said prince—which two Lres follow

Gentlemen London 14o July 1688
I have lately received a Letter from the Lords of his Maties
most honoble Privy Councill (Coppy whereof I herewith send
you) Therein I am commanded to acquaint you of the greate
Blessing God Almighty has bin pleased to give unto his most
sacred Maty and his Royall Consort the Queen in the Birth of
a hopefull son, and to his Maties dominions in a prince; you
are therefore upon sight thereof to cause notice to be given by
proclamacon through out my province of the birth of the prince
and therein to appoynt perticuler dayes for a solemne thanks-
giving to Almighty God for soe greate and innestimable a
blessing, requiring the same to be performed throughout
Maryland with as greate expressions of joy as the people of
that Province are capable of, and you will doe well to get an
addresse to be sent by the very first oppertunity for me to pre-

sent to his Maty the same to be signed by the most substantiall
Inhabitants there, soe not doubting of your ready and exact
Complyance pursuiant to their Lordspps direccons herein I rest
Your very loving freind
