Lionel Copley Esqr Captain Generall and Governor in chief
in and over this their Majestys Province and Territory of
Maryland to Ioshua Barkstead of Somersett County Gent
greeting
Out of the especial Trust and confidence I have in your dis-
cretion fidelity and circumspection as well as your skill and
Iudgment in the Art of Surveying I have ordained constituted
and appointed and by these Presents do ordain constitute and
appoint you the said Joshua Barkstead to be Surveyor of
Somersett County afd to the utmost bounds Limits and Ex-
tents thereof hereby authorising and Impowring you to survey
or resurvey for any Person or Persons any Tract or Parcell of
Land or Lands in the said County according to such warrants
orders and precepts Instructions and directions as shall from
time to time and at all times hereafter be directed to you
from me, from the Councill Board the Surveyor Generall of
this Province or other officer to be hereafter thereunto law-
fully authorised and appointed, and in all things you are to
act do and perform as to the Place and Office of Surveyor
belongeth, or as any Surveyor of a County may or of right
ought to do provided that in any new or fresh Survey or Re-
survey hereafter to be by you made you intrench not upon
nor run within the Lines of any former or more ancient survey
or Land reserved for the Lord Baltemores use nor direct
your courses contrary to his Lordships late conditions of Plan-
tation of this Province, but in all things duly and regularly
proceed as hath been the Custom and Practice of former Sur-
veyors, according to the rules and Instructions to you given
and prescribed to have and to hold the said Place and Office
of Surveyor of Somersett County aforesaid to the said Ioshua
Barkstead for and during Pleasure :
Given under my hand and Seal this 14th day of October in
the fourth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord and Lady
King William and Queen Mary &ca Anno Dom 1692

Mr Robert Mason and Mr Henry Denton according to a for
[mer] Order of this Board bring in their Report of what allow-
ances have been made in the publick Levy, what deductions
and what references made to the next Assembly, whereupon
the Board proceeds to allot and dispose of the Surplusage of
75444 of Tobacco towards the Satisfaction of such Persons
