the year 1691. to the then present Government of this Prov-
ince, which was the convention of the Freemen of the same,
freely and indifferently chosen out of each County) to comand
them to permitt the Lord Baltemore to recover his revenues
here ariseing, only reserving what had been usual for support
of Government. In obedience thereunto they have yearly
sent for England the twelve pence p hogshead given for that
end and purpose of all such shipps that chanced in this Prov-
ince, and have defrayed all publick charges of Governt by
tobacco equally leavyed upon the Inhabitants thereof Butt
soe it is may it please your Majesty before the arrival of your
Majtys Governor here the said Convention had disposed off the
summ of nine hundred and forty pounds sterling this yeares
Revenue ariseing by the said Imposition for defraying the
publick charges of the Government by which means your
Majtys said Governor is debarred of a great part of this years
revenue And whereas since his arrivall and setlement of the
Governt by his great care and diligence in that matter there is
no less than five and twenty ships discovered that departed
this Province in the yeare 1690: without cleareing their shipps
or paying the said imposition which your Majs Governor will
use his endeavours to secure here from time to time as such
shall arrive or come into this Province.
The Premises considered Wee your Maj: most humble Peti-
tioners and faithfull subjects humbly beseech your most sacred
Majesty that the said Imposition money of twelve pence p hhd
by the said ships dicovered may be received here in this Prov-
ince by your Majesty's Governor to his use, in consideration
of what moneys the Country hath for support of the Govern-
ment before since his arrivall made use of for soe farr as it
will goe;
And wee your most loyall and obedient subjects as in duety
bound shall ever pray for your Majesty's long and prosperous
reigne over us. Signed p Order of the House
