some means that Pig cryed which caused others to make a
Noise, which was near, this is all the cause of the said rumor
and if any thing should happen in reality as indeed I as yet
do not any ways dread or fear, Yet I confess it behoves all
People to be carefull, I shall use my utmost endeavours in
Persuit after them with such Force as we can raise in these
Parts, but I trust in God all is well and if any thing should
happen unexpectedly you may (if God Permitt speedily

A Frenchman lately come in with a Parcell of strange
Indians at the head of the Bay and taken up for a Spie, or
Party concerned with them, in designe of mischief was Or-
dered to be brought before the Board, and by an Interpreter
Examin'd as follows Viz^t
Having declared himself to have been formerly an Inhabitant
of Canada and from thence run away and cohabited with the
Indians, Queeried and Responced as follows

Interpreter Upon what Acco^t he left Canada
Answ^r He went away without Leave of the Governor to
some Indians that owed him some Beavor, and when he came
back to the Town again the Governor put him in Prison, and
in Irons, where he continued severall Months, but at last got
loose made his escape and ever since hath used the Woods

Indians chiefly at a Fort call'd Saint Lewis
Interp how came he and those Indians with him to desert

Ans^r while he was with them there it happened that about
2 Years since they went away and some time after about
August he resolved to follow them, and took a Canoe and
went after them 300 Leagues in length, was 40 Days going,
hunted for his Victuals which as he got he Roasted and found
water in all Places
