Warrant for the Maryland Seale
7th Ianuary 1691.
To our Trusty and welbeloved Lionel Copley Esqre, Our
Captain Generall and Governor in Chief in and over our
Province and Territory of Maryland in America. You will
herewith receive a Seal, which we have thought fit to appoint
for the use of Our Province of Maryland, the same being
Engraven on the one side with our Royall Arms, with the
Garter, Crowne, Supporters and Motto, and this Inscription
round the circumference Gulielmus 3d et Maria 2d Dei Gratia
Maj: Brit: Fran: et Hiber Rex et Regina Fidei Defensoris etc.
There being on the other side our Royall Cypher crowned
and this inscription round the circumference, Sigillum Pro-
vincie de Maryland in America, which seal we do hereby
authorize and direct to be used in sealing all Patents and
Grants and all publick Acts and Instruments which shall be
made and passed in our Name for our service within our said
Province and that it be to all intents and purposes of the same
force and Validity as any former Seal within our said Province
or as any other seal whatsoever appointed for the use of any
of our Plantations in America is or hath been And we bid
you Farewell.
From our Court at Whitehall the seaventh of Ianuary 1691.

Received then of William Blathwayt Esqre a Large double
seal of silver appointed for the Publick use of the Governor of
Maryland which I promise to take care that same be safely
conveyed to Coll. Copley Governr, cheif of that Province or in
his absence from the Governmt to the Councill there
