to Us, by one of our principal Secretarys of State and to our
Committee for Trade and Plantations. You are to take
especiall care that fit storehouses be settled throughout our
Province for receiving and keeping of Arms, Amunition
and other publick stores. That we may be better informed
of the Trade of our said Province, you are to take care that
due entries be made in all Ports of all Goods and Commod-
ities imported or exported from thence and from and to what
Places they come and go, and that a yearly account thereof be
transmitted by You unto Us by one of our Principall Sec-
retarys of State and to our Committee for Trade and Planta-
tions. You are to take especiall care that all Tobaccos shipt
in Maryland from what Part soever they come do pay Mary-
land duties. And that all possible means maybe used for the
security of Merchants Ships in their return home, you are
hereby directed to take care that in time of war no ship do
come from Maryland but in Fleets and at such time as shall be
notified from hence for their meeting of Convoys and in Case
of imminent danger, you are to expect directions from hence,
what precautions shall be necessary for their security.
You are to suppress the ingrossing of Commoditys and to
settle such Orders and Regulations therein with the Advice of
our Councill as may be most acceptable to the Inhabitants.
You are to give all Encouragement and Invitation to Mer-
chants and others who shall bring Trade unto our said Colony
or any waies contribute to their advantage and in particular to
the Royall Affrican Company. And you are to take care that
there be no Trading from Maryland to any place in Affrica
within the Charter of the Royall Affrican Company and you
are not to suffer any ships to be sent thither without their leave
or Authority.
You are carefully to observe all the Articles contained in
the Treaty for the composing of differences and the estab-
lishing of Peace in America concluded at Madrid the 8/18 day
of Iuly 1670 with the Crown of Spain. And in case any pri-
vate injury or damage shall be offered or done to any of our
subjects in those Parts by any of the subjects of the King of
Spain or of any other Prince or State in Amity with us. You
shall take care to give Us an account with all convenient
speed, by one of our principall secretarys of State and to our
Committee for Trade and Plantations and not to permit or
encourage reparations to be sought in other way than what is
directed and agreed in the said Article of Madrid and other
Treaties and you are particularly not to Grant Commissions
of War or Reprisals against any Prince or State or their sub-
jects in Amity with us to any Person whatsoever without our
especiall command and to transmit the same to Us.
