ill Consequences of such wicked & unnaturall proceedings
practices & attempts as afd. from being any more or further
permitted tolerated connived at within this Province and to the
end that right and justice may be duely & Impartially Admin-
istred to all & Every person & persons, bodies politicke Cor-
porate within this Province Bee it by this present Genll Con-
vention of the Representative body of this Province now.
assembled and mett together in the Authority of the same
Constituted and Ordained that Nehemiah Blakiston Esqr be
& he is hereby in there Majties names Constituted Assigned and
appointed Chiefe Iustice of the Provinciall Court of this their
Majties Province of Maryland untill his Majties pleasure be
further knowne as well for the Tryall & Condemnacon or
acquittal of the Murderer or Malefactor concerned in the
murder of the said Iohn Paine as afd as also for the holding
hearing & determining of all pleas touching & relating to the
conservacon of their Majties peace of the Province and his
Majties rights & revenues within the same hereby arising &
accrueing together with all other pleas of what Nature or
quality soever formerly legally used to be held in the said Pro-
vinciall Court matters onely relating to probate of Wills &
Granting Administrations by Comission already granted to
the respective County Courts of this Province & matters
relateing to Titles of Land Excepted & foreprized out of this
Commission And alsoe that Henry Jowles Coll George
Robotham Majr Nicholas Greenbury, Mr Thomas Tench Majr
Robert King Dr Iohn Brookes Coll Nicholas Gassaway Mr
Iohn Edmondson Mr Iohn Addison & Mr Robert Mason be
and they are hereby likewise in their Majties Names Constituted
Assigned & appointed Iustices of the said Court for the
Tryall & Condemnation or acquittal aforesaid and for the
holding hearing and determining the pleas afd. Except before
Excepted dureing pleasure or untill his Majties pleasure therein
be further knowne as aforesaid hereby willing & by these
presents Assigning Constituteing & appointing that the said
Chief Iustice or any Four or more of them of which the said
Nehemiah Blakiston Henry Jowles, George Robotham Nicholas
Greenbury & Thomas Tench or one of them to be always one
shall be a Sufficient Court for the holding hearing & deter-
mining the pleas & matters afd and also for the granting &
issueing out of writts of Execution or Scire facias upon Iudge-
ments formerly Obtained in the said Provinciall Court under
the late Governmt. before the Revolucon & alsoe for the tryall
hearing & determinacon of all writts of Error & appeales
legally brought & duely filed for Tryall at the next Provinciall
Court appointed & Assigned to be held before the said Rev-
olucon or Surrendr of the Governmt as afd the said Provinciall
