Lordsps will not take it ill that he now insists upon the Right
and Powers of his Pattent which does sufficiently enable him
to nominate and depute whom his Lordsp shall think fitt for
the Government of his Province; being nevertheless still
resolved for their Maj^tyes satisfaction at this Juncture to ap-
point a Protestant of unquestionable Credit for Governour, as

likewise Protestants of very good Repute to be of the Councill

and to repose the comand of the Militia together with the
Magazine of Armes and Amunition in the hands of Prot-
estants.

It is this day ordered by His Majesty in Councill that the
Right Honorable the Lord Chief Justice Holt and M^r Attorney
Genera] do settle the draught of a Commission from His
Majesty, appointing Lionel Copley Esq^re to be Governor of
Maryland, according to such directions as were this day given
them, by His Majesty at this board, and present the same to
the Right honourable the Lords of the Committee for Trade
and Plantations at their Lordships next meeting.
