Present as above said.
Was read a letter from Coll. Geo: Wells of
Baltemore County touching the murther of the
Englishman in said County by the Nanticoke

Ind: the which Letter is as foll:

May it please your Honors
Yours of the 28th
February 87 is now come to my hand by Major Long who
informes me that the murtherers are certainly Nanticokes and
of kin to the Indian that was killed mad last Spring and that
the name of him that did the murther is Annachohill and his
Companions name is Sonan and his English name James and
I am alsoe informed that they used words reflecting of the
killing of the said mad Indian not long before the murther
was comitted Doe understand of noe Nanticoke Indians in
these parts but those the murtherers belonged to consisting of
four men, two women and a child who upon comitting the
said murther fledd into the woods and as the Mattwass Indians
say are now about Dear Creek in Susquehanough River
where it is supposed they will stay till the Barque will peel
that they can make Canoes to goe over to the Northern
Indians and as to the occasion have not as yet seen the
Corroners Rolle but report sayes the Indian did doe prejudice
to the murthered Enocks stock by cutting his Pigges Eares of
& Tailes and when the reason was demanded why they did
doe soe they said the Piggs eat their corn and when Enocks
Wife spoke chidingly they sayd the Englishmen would not
chide nor scold when they killed the Nanticoke Indian last
Spring and one of the said Indians came to the house of the
said Enock the night before the murther was done and fell
upon the said Enock as he was beating at the morter where-
upon the wife of the said Enock strook the said Indian with
the Pestle & broke his head whereupon the Fray ceased and
she bound up his head and as they thought all was over but
the next morning the brother of him came with another and

fell upon them out of their house as they were at work and the
woman seeing her husband and the other hard sett with the
two Indians run to their assistance who at her first comeing
was by one of them knocked down with such a stroke that
she came not to herself till they had given her husband his
mortall wound and left the other for dead. And as to the
delay of the messenger shall inquire into it being informed he
