To o^r Deare Brother Leonard Caluert Esq^r o^r Leiu^t & grall of
o^r s^d Prouince of Mary-Land & to o^r trusty & welbeloued Giles
Brent Esq^r John Lewger Esq^r Thomas Greene Esq^r Thomas
Gerrard Esq^r & James Neale Esq^r Greeting.
Know yee th^t wee reposing speciall trust & confidence in
yo^r wisdomes diligence & experience, haue assigned &
appointed yo^w ioyntly, & euery of yo^w seuerally to be of our
Priuy Councell w'^hin o^r s^d Prouince of Mary-Land. And wee
doe hereby giue unto yo^w, & every of yo^w full power & autho-
rity from time to time, & att all times, untill we shall deter-
mine or otherwise reuoake this pnt Commis" to assemble &
meete together w^th o^r Leiu^t or other cheife Gouerno^r of the
Prouince, for the time being, when & where he shall from time
to time direct & appoint, to treat, consult, deliberate & aduise
of all matters, causes, & things w^ch which shall be discouered
unto yo^w, or be brought before yo^w aswell concerning the quiett
gouerm^t & regulating of the poeple there as for the good &
safety of o^r s^d Prouince of Mary-Land. And for the better &
more peaceable gouerm^t of o^r s^d Prouince of Mary-Land, wee
doe hereby assigne & appoynt yo^w & euery of yo^w (untill we
shall revoke or determine this p'nt Commis") to be o^r Justice,
& Justices, Commis^r & Commis^rs for conseruation of the peace
w^thin the s^d Prouince of Mary-Land, & doe hereby grant unto
yo^w & euery of yo^w (in case any breach of peace shall happen
w^thin yo^r any, or eyther of yo^r uiew, or in case yo^w shall be
informed of any breech of th^e peace) full power & authority to
arrest or call before yo^w, by yo^r warr^t to be directed to the
sheriffs, Constables or other Officers of Counties, Townes, Vil-

lages, & other places w^thin the s^d Prouince of Mary-Land all &
euery the Offendo^r & Offendo^rs agst o^r Peace, & if yo^w see
cause) to bind ouer the Offendo^r or Offendo^rs w^th good surety
or sureties to appeare before o^r Leiu^t & the Counsell there, to
answere the same. & in the meane time to keepe the Peace, or
bee of the good behauio^r as the case shall requyre : And in
default of such surety or sureties to be by such offendo^r or
Offendo^rs tendred unto yo^w to committ the Offendo^r or Of-
fendo^rs to the common goale, or next prison w^thin the s^d
Prouince as to yo^w shall seeme fitt : There to remaine untill
