magni of Mary-Land & Aualon in the parts of
America, Lord Baron of Baltemore &c:
To or Deare Brother Leonard Caluert Esqr or Leiut & grall of
or sd Prouince of Mary-Land & to or trusty & welbeloued Giles
Brent Esqr John Lewger Esqr Thomas Greene Esqr Thomas
Gerrard Esqr & James Neale Esqr Greeting.
Know yee tht wee reposing speciall trust & confidence in
yor wisdomes diligence & experience, haue assigned &
appointed yow ioyntly, & euery of yow seuerally to be of our
Priuy Councell w'hin or sd Prouince of Mary-Land. And wee
doe hereby giue unto yow, & every of yow full power & autho-
rity from time to time, & att all times, untill we shall deter-
mine or otherwise reuoake this pnt Commis" to assemble &
meete together wth or Leiut or other cheife Gouernor of the
Prouince, for the time being, when & where he shall from time
to time direct & appoint, to treat, consult, deliberate & aduise
of all matters, causes, & things wch which shall be discouered
unto yow, or be brought before yow aswell concerning the quiett
gouermt & regulating of the poeple there as for the good &
safety of or sd Prouince of Mary-Land. And for the better &
more peaceable gouermt of or sd Prouince of Mary-Land, wee
doe hereby assigne & appoynt yow & euery of yow (untill we
shall revoke or determine this p'nt Commis") to be or Justice,
& Justices, Commisr & Commisrs for conseruation of the peace
wthin the sd Prouince of Mary-Land, & doe hereby grant unto
yow & euery of yow (in case any breach of peace shall happen
wthin yor any, or eyther of yor uiew, or in case yow shall be
informed of any breech of the peace) full power & authority to
arrest or call before yow, by yor warrt to be directed to the
sheriffs, Constables or other Officers of Counties, Townes, Vil-

lages, & other places wthin the sd Prouince of Mary-Land all &
euery the Offendor & Offendors agst or Peace, & if yow see
cause) to bind ouer the Offendor or Offendors wth good surety
or sureties to appeare before or Leiut & the Counsell there, to
answere the same. & in the meane time to keepe the Peace, or
bee of the good behauior as the case shall requyre : And in
default of such surety or sureties to be by such offendor or
Offendors tendred unto yow to committ the Offendor or Of-
fendors to the common goale, or next prison wthin the sd
Prouince as to yow shall seeme fitt : There to remaine untill
