Smith, John

  • Virginia. This is state 10 of the prototype map for the Chesapeake area from 1612 to 1673. It was included in John Smith's Generall Historie of Virginia.It was the first printed map of the area and was remarkably accurate in view of the tools available to Smith. 1612.   • Virginia. This is state 9 of the John Smith map, which was the prototype for the Chesapeake area from 1612 to 1673, when Herrman's map was published. It was the first printed map of the area and was quite accurate for the tools available for its compilation. 1612. MSA SC 1399-1-101 [HFC 112S5]

  • Virginia. This is the second edition of John Smith's map of 1612. It was done by Gilmer & Rice of the William Wirt Literary Circle in Richmond. It is distinguished by the absence of the imprint line "Graven by William Hole". It is from state 10 of the Smith map. 1612 [1819]. MSA SC 1399-1-239 [HFC 319S5]

  • Virginia. This is state 6 of the prototype map for the Chesapeake from 1612 to 1673. It was the first printed map of the area and was included in Smith's Generall Historie of Virginia. It was quite accurate for the tools available at the time of its compilation. 1612 [1627]. MSA SC 1399-1-268-1 [HFC 112S5]

  • Ould Virginia. This map is state 4 of 4 and was included in Smith's Generall Historie of Virginia... from 1624-1632. 1624 [1627]. MSA SC 1399-1-268-2 [HFC 124S5]
