Furniture

Furniture in the state-owned art collection includes examples of fine furniture made in Maryland from the eighteenth century to the present. The collection is highlighted by early legislative furnishings by renowned Annapolis cabinetmaker John Shaw (1745-1829). Bench-made Colonial Revival furniture includes examples by Potthast Brothers Inc. (1892-1975) and Enrico Liberti of Baltimore (fl. 1930-1977) of Baltimore. Contemporary craftsmen, McMartin & Beggins of St. Michael's, Maryland have made important new furnishings, some made of lumber from Maryland’s historic Wye Oak.
