This Chippendale style clock was made by well known Frederick cabinetmaker John Fessler, Sr., probably around the year 1800. With its steep rise to the arch and scalloped base ornament, the case of the clock is characteristic of early nineteenth century Frederick craftsmanship. The face of the clock is inscribed, "John Fessler Frederick Town."
The clock was originally owned by Maryland’s first governor, Thomas Johnson, of “Rose Hill” in Frederick and was presented to Government House by Governor and Mrs. Theodore McKeldin in 1959.
