A subcommittee of Legislative Committee of Maryland Judicial Conference, Committee to Study Extended Media Coverage of Criminal Trial Proceedings in Maryland began its work in Aug. 2007. Committee considered issues relating to appropriateness, feasibility, and usefulness of allowing television cameras in courtrooms to broadcast criminal trial proceedings in State courts.

Committee reported its findings on Feb. 1, 2008.

Initially, Court Interpretation and Translation Services Committee was established by Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals in 2002. Also known as Court Interpreters Committee, Committee was reestablished by Administrative Order of Chief Judge of Court of Appeals on Oct. 18, 2012.

Committee's primary responsiblity was to advise Court Interpreter Services of Administrative Office of the Courts.

Nine judges were appointed to Committee by Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, who also designated Chair and Vice-Chair.

In Jan. 2015, reconstituted as Language Access Subcommittee of Court Access and Community Relations Committee.

In 1981, Judicial Institute of Maryland was established by Administrative Order of the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals. Institute developed, provided, and evaluated comprehensive, diverse and cost-effective continuing legal education for judges of Maryland. It was responsible to Maryland Judicial Conference for all judicial education and training.

Institute was governed by fifteen-member Board of Directors, appointed by Chief Judge of Court of Appeals. While chair and retired judge member served at pleasure of Chief Judge, Board's other members served two-year terms. Board named Executive Director and Deputy Director (Administrative Order of June 30, 2011; Maryland Rules, Rule 18-601).

Abolished in Nov. 2015. Institute was replaced by Judicial Education within Judicial College of Maryland under Administrative Office of the Courts.

RESEARCH & GRANTS SUBCOMMITTEE

On May 20, 2015, the Judicial Council approved formation of the Research and Grants Subcommittee under the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee.

Alternative dispute resolution research that is conducted by, or on behalf of, the Maryland Judiciary is monitored by the Research and Grants Subcommittee, which assists in disseminating information about that research within the Judiciary and to its justice partners. The Subcommittee also reviews published research by others in the field, recommends research that may be beneficial to the courts, and makes programmatic recommendations based on the findings of research. Further, the Subcommittee reviews information about grants related to alternative dispute resolution, which are received or awarded by the Judiciary.
