Retired November 10, 2000. Chair, Board of Directors, Judicial Institute of Maryland, 1987-99 (member, 1981-87). Chair, Select Committee on Gender Equality, Maryland Judicial Conference, 1989-92.

Assistant Attorney General, 1960-62. Member, Court of Appeals Standing Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure, 1969-80.


Born in Baltimore, Maryland, 1930. Attended St. Bernard School; Loyola High School, Towson, Maryland; Loyola College, A.B., 1952; University of Maryland School of Law, LL.B., 1956 (order of the coif, national law school honor society). Admitted to Maryland Bar, 1956. Partner, Frank, Bernstein, Conaway & Goldman. Member, Maryland State Bar Association (past chair litigation section); Baltimore City Bar Association. Fellow, American College of Trial Lawyers. Member, Lawyers Round Table; Rule Day Law Club; Wranglers Law Club. Adjunct faculty, University of Maryland School of Law, 1957-68, 1987-91. Board of Trustees, Maryland Law Review. Legal Excellence Award for the Advancement of Professional Competence, Maryland Bar Foundation, 1999. Senior Lawyer of the Year, Senior Lawyer Section, Maryland State Bar Association, 2013. Died in Silver Spring, Maryland, October 1, 2022.
