Interim Report to Governor & General Assembly due December 1, 2024 (Chapters 911 & 912, Acts of 2024).

Final Report to Governor & General Assembly due December 1, 2025 (Chapters 911 & 912, Acts of 2024).

In June 2024, the 9-1-1 Specialist Recruitment and Retention Workgroup was authorized by the General Assembly (Chapters 911 & 912, Acts of 2024).

The 9-1-1 phone number can be called to request emergency assistance or report an emergency situation.

Maryland's original 9-1-1 System was authorized in 1979, and carried out by the Emergency Number Systems Board (now Maryland 9-1-1 Board). That 9-1-1 system is based on landline phones. Next generation technology provides more accurate caller location information and more efficient response.

The Workgroup charge is first to review the reports of the Commission to Advance Next Generation 9-1-1 Across Maryland. Then, the Workgroup will identify and examine recruitment and retention challenges that affect 4 9–1–1 specialists in Maryland.

Authorization for the Workgroup ends December 31, 2025.
