In July 2021, the Workgroup on Home Detention Monitoring was established by the General Assembly (Chapter 597, Acts of 2021). It was re-authorized by the General Assembly in July 2024 (Chapter 763, Acts of 2024).
The Workgroup is to study and make recommendations regarding the costs and availability of both public and private pretrial home-detention monitoring systems.
Seventeen members constitute the Workgroup. Seven members are appointed by the Governor, three by the Senate President, and three by the House Speaker. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Maryland appoints one member. Three members serve ex officio. The Senate President and House Speaker designate the Co-Chairs.
Authorization for the Workgroup ends June 30, 2027.
