Report to Governor & General Assembly due Jan. 1, 2025 (Chapters 708 & 709, Acts of 2024).

In June 2024, the Workgroup on Growing Engagement in the Law Enforcement and the Corrections Workforce was authorized by the General Assembly (Chapters 708 & 709, Acts of 2024).

The Workgroup is to identify and study the shortage of employees in law enforcement and corrections; determine ways to advertise and promote employment opportunities in these fields; and explore recruitment and retention strategies that have been successful in other states and countries. Recommendations will be made by the Workgroup on incentives or other methods to increase the number of employees in the law enforcement and corrections workforce.

Seventeen members constitute the Workgroup. The Senate President and House Speaker each appoint one member, and three members are appointed by the President of the Maryland Correctional Administrators Association. Eleven members serve e officio. The Chair is chosen by Governor.

Authorization for the Workgroup ends June 31, 2025.
