In February 2021, Maryland Vaccine Equity Task Force was created by Governor.
With Maryland Department of Health, Task Force promoted equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccine. At direction of Governor, and consistent with applicable law, Vaccine Equity Task Force partnered with State’s 24 local health departments, as well as community stakeholders, to increase Marylanders’ access to vaccine.
Through federal, State and local government agencies, and community and private organizations, Task Force identified, educated, and vaccinated vulnerable, underserved and hesitant Marylanders. These included minorities, non-English speaking populations, and those in hard-to-reach areas across State. To make this happen, Task Force leveraged resources with close ties to key communities, including State’s Vaccine Advisory Group, Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives, State’s network of Medicaid providers, and additional public sector and community partners.
Task Force evaluated county plans and targeted resources at equity-focused vaccination efforts. It also served as a clearinghouse for proposals and requests from nonprofit, faith-based and community organizations that served vulnerable populations.
Discontinued by June 2022.
