In June 2017, the Task Force to Study Tax Sales in Maryland was established (Chapter 616, Acts of 2017).

First, the Task Force assessed what impact tax sales have in Maryland, and examined how such sales are conducted in each county. Also, the Task Force considered and evaluated those tax sales used to collect delinquent water charges, and what alternative collection methods could be used. Finally, the Task Force was to make recommendations for reforming the tax sale process in Maryland.

The Task Force submitted its report to the Governor and General Assembly in January 2018.

Authorization for the Task Force ended June 30, 2018.
