In September 2017, the Governor formed the Commission on the Future of the Pikesville Armory (Executive Order 01.01.2017.20).

Built in 1903, the Pikesville Armory was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Concerning future uses for the Armory, the Commission charge was to consult with Pikesville community members and other persons with relevant expertise to consider uses that would be consistent with the Armory's designation as one of the nation's historic sites.

In October 2018, authorization for the Commission was extended to November 1, 2019 (Executive Order 01.01.2018.25).

The Commission submitted its report to the Governor in October 2019.
