In June 2017, the Work Group on Transportation for Middle and High School Students in Prince George's County formed (Chapter 336, Acts of 2017).

The Work Group was to pinpoint where Prince George's County public school locations and bus routes intersect with or overlap bus routes of the County's Department of Public Works and Transportation, and those of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. Further, the Work Group was to identify what software systems are used by those entities to operate and monitor their bus systems. To improve the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of transporting students, the Work Group estimated any savings to the school system by transporting them in buses operated either by the Department of Public Works and Transportation, or by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. Also, the Work Group considered the feasibility and cost of a system using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to notify parents of bus arrivals and delays. The Work Group identified a range of options for transporting students and evaluate the cost of each option.

In August 2017, the Work Group submitted its report to the Prince George's County legislative delegations.

Authorization for the Work Group ended June 30, 2018.
