In April 1998, the Governor's Advisory Committee on Careers in the Arts for People with Disabilities was created by the Governor. The Committee's charge was to recommend ways to increase access to careers in the arts for individuals with disabilities. The Committee examined the career opportunities in the arts for people with disabilities and identified the barriers and obstacles to those careers.

On September 23, 2002, the Maryland Statewide Forum on Careers in the Arts for People with Disabilities was held at the Baltimore Museum of Art. The Advisory Committee's last meeting was held November 2002.
