The Task Force evaluated options and made recommendations on how to enhance boating and expand Maryland's boating industry. Evaluating the impact of modifying the vessel excise tax rate and boat registration fees, as well as incentives to encourage boaters to register their boats in the State and use Maryland's marinas and boatyards were considered. The Task Force also gauged what benefit expenditure and use of the Waterway Improvement Fund provides to the general boating public and the boating industry; how decreased State and federal spending on boating access has affected the boating industry; and the costs and needs of maintaining and improving public boating infrastructure and boating safety.
In September 2015, the Task Force submitted its report to the Governor and General Assembly.
Authorization for the Task Force ended June 30, 2016.
