The Interagency Committee on Aging Services was authorized by the General Assembly in 1982 (Chapters 101 and 330, Acts of 1982).

Meeting quarterly, the Committee devised programs to assess the needs of older adults and their caregivers, and provide services. The Committee also established a service system for frail or health-impaired elderly persons at risk of institutionalization.

An employee of the Department of Aging, the Executive Director served as principal staff to the Committee (Code Human Services Article, secs. 10-301 through 10-310).

Authorization for the Committee was repealed by the General Assembly in June 2025 (Chapter 33, Acts of 2025). At that time, certain functions of the Committee transferred to the Department of Aging.
