INVESTIGATIVE AUDITS UNIT
The Investigative Audits Unit uses audit techniques and skills to examine programs and operations in information technology, school operations, business and finance, facilities services, and special projects, such as the school police, charter schools and special education. The Unit also examines contracts relative to various statewide activities in procurement and construction. Unit investigations conform to generally accepted government auditing standards.
The Supervisory Inspector General for Investigative Audits reports directly to the Deputy Inspector General, who serves as the strategic thinker and subject matter expert in investigative audits and related issues within the Office of the Inspector General for Education. The Deputy Inspector General oversees auditors, who examine local school system programs, operations, and contracts relative to various statewide activities.

The Inspector General for Education examines local boards of education; local school systems; public schools; nonpublic schools that receive State funds; the State Department of Education; and the Interagency Commission on School Construction. Further, the Inspector General receives and investigates information and complaints concerning compliance with State and federal law; potential fraud, waste, and abuse of public funds and property; and civil rights violation involving students or employees.
