The Joint Advisory Committee on Legislative Data Systems was created by the Legislative Policy Committee in 1988. The Committee reviewed and evaluated legislative data systems and data processing goals for the General Assembly and its staff agencies. Committee recommendations were reported to the Legislative Policy Committee.

In June 2014, the Committee was abolished and its duties transferred to the Joint Committee on Legislative Information Technology and Open Government (Chapter 464, Acts of 2014).
