Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, May 30, 1958. Attended Knoxville Catholic High School, Knoxville, Tennessee; U.S. Naval Academy, B.S. (history), 1980; Central Michigan University, graduate studies (public administration), 1989-90. Served in U.S. Navy, 1980-91 (Navy commendation medal, 1988); U.S. Naval Reserve, 1991-. Pilot, American Airlines, 1991-. President, West Annapolis Parent-Teacher Association, 1990-91. Vice-President, Hunt Meadows Homeowners Association, 1991-96. Member, U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association; Fleet Reserve Association; Annapolis Touchdown Club; Knights of Columbus; St. Mary's Royal Blue. Married; four children.
