Paralegal in family, criminal and real estate law, 1977-85, 1993-98. Journalist, Baltimore Sun, 1985-88; The Carroll County Times, 1988-90. Volunteer, Historical Society of Carroll County (writing biographies of Carroll County Vietnam veterans), 1994-97. Campaign manager for Jerry F. Barnes, Carroll County State's Attorney, 1994. Member, Tri-District Republican Club (president, 1995-96; president-elect, 1998-99). Delegate, Republican Party National Convention, 2008 (platform committee). Member, Worcester County Republican Central Committee, 2010-14. Member, Maryland Taxpayers' Association; National Association of Legal Assistants; Citizens Against Government Waste; Citizens Against Big Charter Government; Americans for Tax Reform. School Bell Award, Maryland State Teachers' Association, 1988 (sustained coverage), 1989 (spot news).
