Site Gives Industries Door To Disabled Community

"Few of us realize that people with disabilities have a rich and dramatic history relevant to all Americans," says Laurie Block. "Nearly all of us know someone with a disability, and this has always been the case." An expansion of her work in putting together the award-winning NPR documentary "Beyond Affliction." The museum is a searchable, theme-based digital collection that exists only online -- offering documents and images related to disability history in the United States, drawn from public and private collections around the country. 
Five months after the sudden death of Heidi Van Arnem, the founder of a Birmingham-based Web site that has become a portal for the nation's 54 million people with physical disabilities, her iCan company is poised to expand with a new marketing service to supplement its media and consulting business.
