This will be the second annual meeting of a new and unique national professional network of accessibility coordinators, managers and directors in the arts. The conference will feature presentations, small group discussions, panels and speakers who are experts on issues related to making cultural arts organizations accessible to individuals with disabilities in our communities. · How to Conduct a Successful Staff Training
· Turning an Obligation into an Asset
All conference events will be held at the Kennedy Center.
HISTORY
In August of 2000, a small group of 25 education managers, executive directors, development directors, pr-marketing managers and house managers all of whom held the position of ADA/504 coordinator or accessibility manager at their respective performing arts organization got together to talk about accessibility issues. Some attendees had more than 20 years of experience in the field while others had only been on the job less than 6 months. But, everyone had one thing in common -- the desire to create accessible programs that are inclusive of older people and people with disabilities in our communities. This was an unprecedented opportunity to find out about the field of arts and accessibility; learn about practical methods of implementing accessibility in performing arts environments, share experiences, resources, expertise and knowledge with others in the field.

This informal meeting was so successful that a larger group of around 75 met again in August of 2001 with great success and enthusiasm. This group decided to form a national professional network of accessibility managers working in the cultural arts. This network is being formed as a program and under the umbrella of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

REGISTRATION FEES
The cost to attend the August 2002 conference is only $75! Attendees will need to pay for their own transportation, hotel and per diems. The KC will provide breakfast and lunch on meeting days. To register send an email with your name, organization name, mailing address, phone number and email address to: access@kennedy-center.org and a registration form will be sent to you.
