Tapping Technology

Technology Expo and Job Fair

On January 30, 2002, the Blind Industries and Services of Maryland hosted a Career and Technology Expo at Catonsville Community College. Maryland TAP and DORS were both represented, as were numerous other organizations and companies.

A wide range of technologies was on display, from Braille playing cards and magnification viewers to Magic computer software, a screen magnification and speech program. A few prospective employers were on hand as well to collect resumes and make the public aware of job openings.

Though the turnout was at times slim, the purpose of the event was to bring new assistive technologies and Baltimore companies together to find solutions to include individuals with visual impairments into the mainstream job market. Hopefully, with the next Career and Technology Expo, more businesses and individuals will participate in the worthwhile event.
