Universal Design is the design of products and environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design. Universal Design is the most effective practice for ensuring access for people with disabilities.
The training is offered on December 7-11 in Houston. Register by November 2 to recieve the lowest price: $100 for the Prerequisite Seminar, $500 for the Universal Design and Interpretation Course.

Jewish Vocational Services of Metropolitan Washington is offering a Supported Employment Program for People with Hearing Impairments. They are looking for unemployed Montgomery County residents who are at least 22 years of age and who are deaf or hard of hearing. The program is free and includes occupational testing, career development workshops, career counseling, job placement assistance, and integration into the new workplace.

Classes are scheduled to begin in early September.
On April 30, residents of Walnut Towers participted in a demonstration of over 30 adapted telephones. Susan Levi of MDTAP demonstrated the telephones and provided information about resources which sell the telephones. She also gave residents information regarding how one can get free telephones if their disability includes either hearing impairment, speech impaiment, or poor hand use or memory loss.
