By Pete MooreIn our world today the computer has become an item that every home and business in America and the world can't live without.
I have a friend that has a severe form of Cerebral Palsy where moving her arms or talking is impossible. So the computer that she has enables her to communicate. There is a pad that is attached on her wheelchair near her head; using her head to press the pad she is able to direct a cursor to the word she wants and pressing the pad is able to print out the words onto a small roll of paper.
In France there is a man who is paralyzed from the neck down and his daughter was able to create a computer that can control the car. The verbal commands are spoken in German. The man gives the command in a microphone and the door opens up. He is able to be more independent and able to do some things again that he could do before his accident.
My wheelchair got a microchip inside the control box and this helps me to get around more and be less dependent on people pushing me around.
Do you remember the movie "Total Recall"? Where the girl goes into her apartment and gave the command "Lights...Coffee..." And everything starts to come on. That's all done with computer chips. Even our telephone has computer chips inside to hold many numbers and names of people who we do business with...... or our friends!
