87) June Court Anno Domini 1747
Be it Remembered that heretofore to wit the Second Tuesday in March Anno Domini one Thousand Seven Hundred forty four but by the oath of fourteen Jurors Namely Rober Date &Ca was Presented Susanah Plummer for bearing a bastard Child And Now here at this day to wit the second Tuesday in June aforesaid the aforesaid Susanah in Custody of the Sheriff Namely Samuel Hanson Gent to the barr here brought in her Proper Person Comes and being demanded of her by the Court here wether she be Guilty of the bastardy afs.d above upon her Imposed she the said ^Susanah^ says she is thereof Guilty in manner and form as by the Presentment aforesaid against her it is alledged Therefore it is Considered by the Court here that the said Susanah be fined six Hundred Pounds of Tobacco or Thirty shillings Current money for her offence afs.d according to the form force & Effect of the Act of Assembly in those Cases late made and Provided and that the said Susanah be Taken &C.a Whereupon into Court here in his Proper Person Comes Bowling Speak of Charles County Planter and becomes Pledge and Security for the afs.d Susanah to pay the fine afs.d as also the several fees arisen due to the officers and ministers of the Court here by occasion of the Premises
Be it Remembered that heretofore to wit the Second Tuesday in November last by by the oath of Jurors Namely &C.a was Presented Elizabeth Morriss for Bearing a bastard Child And Now here at this day to wit the Second Tuesday in June afs.d the afs.d Elizabeth in Custody of the sheriff Namely Samuel Hanson Gent to the Barr here brought in her proper Person Comes and being demanded of her by the Court here wether she be Guilty of the bastardy afs.d above upon her Imposed she the said Elizabeth says she is thereof Guilty in manner and form as by the Presentment aforesaid against her it is alledged Therefore it is Considered that the s.d Elizabeth be fined or suffer Corporal Punishment according to the Directions of the Act of Assembly in those Cases late made and Provided and for that the said Elizabeth Cannot Pay or Procure any Person to be security for the fine afs.d by the Act afs.d Imposed It is ordered the sheriff that he take her to the Whipping Post and having striped her Naked from the Waist upwards their give her Twelve ^Ten^ Lashes on the bair back for the offence afs.d And afterwards to wit the same Second Tuesday in June aforesaid the sheriff afs.d Returns to the Court here that he hath done Execution of the said Judgment upon the afs.d Elizabeth Whereupon into Court here in his Proper Person Came James Nivison of Charles County Merchant and becomes Pledge and Security for the afs.d Elizabeth to pay the several fees arisen due to the officers and ministers of the Court here by occasion of the Premises Whereupon it is by the Court here further Considered that the said Elizabeth Morriss do serve her Master James Nivison one year In consideration of the ^Loss of^ time and trouble of his House and the fees arisen due to the officers and Ministers of the s.d Court |
