Convict p Confession
                               Be it Remembered that heretofore to wit the Second
Tuesday in Aug.t last by the oath of fifteen Jurors Namely Thomas Matthews
&C.a was Presented Mary Clark for bearing a bastard Child
                                                                                           And now here at this day
to wit the Second Tuesday in March aforesaid the aforesaid Mary Clark in Custody of
the Sheriff Namely Thomas Hungerford Gentleman to the Barr here bought in
her proper person Comes and being Demanded of her by the Court here wether she be
Guilty of the Bastardy aforesaid above upon her Imposed she the said Mary Clark
says she is thereof Guilty in manner and form as by the Presentment aforesaid ag.st
her it is alledged
                                  Therefore it is therefore Considered that the said Mary Castel
be fined or suffer Corporal Punishment according to the Directions of the Act of Assembly
in those Cases late made and Provided and for that the said Mary Castel Cannot
Pay or Procure any Person to be Security for the fine afs.d by the Act afs.d Imposed
It is ordered the sheriff that he take her to the Whipping Post and having Stripped her
Naked from the Waist upwards their give her Twelve Lashes on the Bair Back for her
offence aforesaid
                                  And afterwards to wit the same Second Tuesday in March
aforesaid the SHeriff aforesaid Returns to the Court here that he hath done Execution of
the said Judgment upon the afs.d Mary Clark
                                                                         Whereupon into Court here
in his proper Person Comes Joseph Clements of Charles County Planter &
becomes Pledge and Security for the afs.d Mary Clark to pay the several fees
arisen due to the officers and Ministers of the Court hereby occasion of the
Premises
                               Whereupon it is by the Court here further Considered
that the said Mary Clark do serve her Master one year and a half
Inconsideration of the Loss of Time and trouble of his House and the fees
arisen due to the officers and Ministers of the Court

    And now here at this day to wit the Second Tuesday in March afs.d the afs.d
Mary Castel in Custody of the sheriff Namely Thomas Hungerford Gent to
the Court here brought in her proper person Comes and being Demanded of her
by the Court here wether she be Guilty of the Bastardy aforesaid above upon her
Imposed she the said Mary Castel says she is thereof Guilty in manner and form
as by the Presentment aforesaid against her it is alledged
